Dear reader,
Welcome to my website! I’m looking forward to sharing my love of words with fellow
readers and writers.
Many of you have received my annual Christmas letter for the past 4
decades, and over those years, some of you have asked about my writing. Of course, during that time, I stayed incredibly busy raising six wonderful children, and only wrote sporadically, in the
margins, on the rim of life. That rhythm of motherhood and writing became the heart of my essay “Writing on the Rim,” which appeared in Mothers Always Write, a beloved literary magazine for parents that has since closed.
Now, during my retirement, I’m writing full time and loving it. I’m currently working on several projects, one in which I’m compiling all those holiday letters from Christmases past into a memoir entitled The Evergreen Epistles.
My love of words began early as my mother and both of my grandmothers spent a lot of
time reading to me. I wrote my first poem at the age of eight to persuade my parents that my
siblings and I needed a dog. It didn’t happen right away but within two years, a small Yorkshire Terrior named Twiggy became part of our family.
Even at that young age, I made the connection that words have power to persuade, so
much so that I pursued a career in public relations and marketing. My journalism degree came in
handy as I used my observation skills to capture ordinary moments that upon reflection became
extraordinary. I recorded those moments in poetry.
In August 2026, my poetry chapbook Moonshine Shared with a Mishmash of Musings will debut. In it there is a poem entitled “A Dog Gone Good Story: Part 1 and Part 2 about the universal longing of children to have a dog. At last, I write from the center of life — grateful for the stories that shimmer, the memories that linger, and the words that finally found their home.
With love,
Lori
So in awe of you, mom! You spent years raising my 5 siblings and me and helping us chase our dreams, and now we get to support you in chasing yours!! It’s been such a gift to witness you courageously pursuing and actualizing your dreams — what a beautiful thing to behold. I’m so grateful to be part of the alchemy; it’s been delightful and brought me such joy.
